Day 3 In Hawaii

On our third day in Hawaii we rented a jeep and headed to the North Shore.  The drive was absolutely beautiful.  I took a lot of pictures through the car window so they all aren't great but you can at least get the idea.  We went to a beach called Waimea Bay and it turned out to be our favorite beach of all.  In the winter, Waimea Bay, along with other beaches on the North Shore are the locations of all of the surfing competitions.  It's hard to believe that the waves get so big there because it was so calm when we were there.

We couldn't get over how clear and calm the water was...........so pretty!!

I think the picture below looks like a post card.

Just to give you and idea, this is what the same beach above looks like in the winter.......crazy!

Our new friends Dave and Melissa met us at the beach.

At Waimea Bay there is a big rock known as the "Jumping Rock."  People were jumping off of it all day so before we left we decided that we all needed to jump too!

This is the sign that you pass as your about to climb up the rock.  We actually didn't stop to read it until after we jumped.......funny how that works!

So Dave and I decided that we would go first while Melissa and Daniel stayed back to take pictures.  Here we are at the top of the rock getting ready to jump.

I jumped first!

Then it was Dave's turn.

Then Daniel and Melissa headed up to the top.
Daniel jumped in first.

And then went Melissa.

It was a lot of fun and I'm glad we all talked ourselves into doing it.  After the beach, we headed to a cute little historic town called Hale'iwa.  We ate at a Mexican restaurant called Cholo's suggested to me by my friend Melissa.  The margaritas were refreshing and the food was great.

After lunch we parted ways with Dave and Melissa and walked around the shops in Hale'iwa.  We stopped and had shaved ice at Aoki's which apparently is the thing to do there.  Aoki's is pretty famous in Oahu and you can buy Aoki t-shirts all over the island.  The shaved ice was awesome!

After walking around for a bit, we decided to take the long way home so we could drive the windward side of the island.  It was so pretty.  The pictures below don't begin to do it justice but it's all I have.  On our drive we past the filming locations for Jurassic Park and Lost.  We actually saw a camera crew at one spot but we aren't sure what they were filming.

When we got back to the hotel we were wiped out.  We made dinner in our room which amounted to bologna sandwiches and wine and called it an early night.

Here are a few more pictures of our resort.
