We knew that our first home improvement project, upon moving in, would be to landscape the back yard. Although we love everything else about our house, the back yard needed some major work. The back yard was completely dirt. There wasn't even a weed to be seen which gave us a great, already prepped area to lay down some synthetic grass. Being in the desert, we decided against putting in sod because of the amount of water it would take to keep it looking good. Synthetic grass is a bigger up front cost but the fact that there is absolutely no maintenance required made our decision easy. In the two weeks that we lived in the house before installing the grass, Claire had a blast playing in the dirt/mud. However, I didn't enjoy cleaning up the mess that was continually tracked into the house. Here are some pictures of our project during and after completion.
